Yeah.
That's one great car!! The only thing I don't like is that it doesn't have a porsche engine.

Lets see, for 11K I can buy a 951, that has a Porsche engine. It won't beat every street car, but it'll go pretty darn quick, handle very well, and it has a Porsche engine. And on top of that, it has a Porsche engine.
Nice car though, except it doesn't have a Porsche engine. |

An interesting hot rod, but not really a Porsche anymore, IMO. Kinda like a NASCAR "Monte Carlo" that has a full tube frame underneath and a Ford rear end. As for his claims of beating any other street-legal car, I'm sure John Hennessey has something in his modified Viper stable that could humble this guy. If you want to go fast in a straight line, how 'bout a built 400-cube Chevy V-8 in a T-bucket street rod? Same power, considerably less weight and no fender clearance problems in fitting huge tires to put the power down.

If you want to drag race, go Mustang or something. Much less expensive and more 1/4-mile aftermarket stuff available. Or, there's always rice.
Porsches are made to turn - that's the value. Horsepower is largely irrelevant. Don't waste your money unless you can.

that car is the bomb - sorry purists but that thing kicks butt and has made me and grommit once again contemplate our respective automotive existences. After having a 951 and searching for power in every crack and crevice, 500 hp w/o nitrous is very tempting to myself - a confirmed speed addict.

One of the great advantages of a 944 is its balance; nearly 50/50. Now take a Chevy engine (which is probably 100lbs heavier) and you throw a lot more weight on the front wheels. You get into understeer problems that were not present in the original model. You kill the strength of the 944 design.
I guess it's kind of like fake boobs. Looks awesome but something just don't feel right about it. Then again, you have a good street rod. I prefer to know that I can beat a 1984 Corvette (250+hp) on a slalom course with a 1984 944 (143 hp).

Put a fiberglass hood on it and you are already 40 lbs closer. Do a fiberglass bumper also and you are a total of 30 lbs off the original distribution. Finally, by relocating the battery, you have an even 50/50 distribution. Sounds pretty easy to me!

Relocate the battery to the back of the car and maybe lose the AC and you offset the 100lb difference in engine weight. With 500hp an additional 100lbs won't make any real difference.
I've talked to a few people who have done V8 conversions on 944's and they say the handling is not affected at all. Don't get me wrong, I love my Porsche, I've wanted one as long as I can remember, but whether the engine is a chevy V8 or a Porsche 4, what's the difference if it makes you smile like an idiot when you drive it. That's what it's all about, isn't it? Pete85.5NA (Fast enough to get me in trouble) |

I'm more of the kind that likes the A-B-C cups. in this case wider isn't better...unless you drive a car with large flares like our 944s and them 930s ![]() As for that 350 in a 944...SACRILIGIOUS! I can't believe people would swap a beautiful Porsche motor for a "Pick'N'Save" bargain 350 block!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ![]()

If I remeber correctly, a Chevy 350 weighs less than a 951 engine with turbo and intercooler.

kinda like when the Ferrari 288 GTO came out, people were taking the Ferrari engine out and putting twin-turbo american V-8s in em. Or like the Jag XJ-6 and XJ-12 that people retrofit with american V-8s.
Makes perfect sense to me - we don't have to worry as much about fuel mileage as the Europeans do and our motors don't have to sustain 6,000 rpm continously. There is a reason why America is land of the cheap V-8s. P.S. - Euro guess you never tried them Silicone enhanced beauties either

uhmm I am kind of an ass man myself......(One of the main reasons I am attracted to the 944/951/968 series, wide in the front and the back........just like a fine woman should be)
but in regards to that car........ I would love to have it. I guess if it weighed 100 lbs more in the front, just add another 100 lbs, of amplifiers and subs in the back.......it will put you back at 50:50. I am sure the 500hp...will not have much trouble pulling the extra 100 lbs I can't begin to imagine how that things pulls out of a tight turn..........what a dream!!!!
