Post Clutch r/r, now no power in 1st/2nd, also pedal low...what gives?
Hey guys,
We just replaced the rubber centered clutch on my 944 (old one shredded after the tri-welds gave on the original disc). Replaced the throwout bearing and the pilot bearing as well - left the original pressure plate. At the time of blowout the engine was running well and smooth, and still does. Everything went well, not a bolt leftover or anything. But the first thing we noticed was that the clutch pedal didn't want to spring back up, only returns halfway (can pull it up with toe) and it only releases the clutch in the last 1/2"-1" before the floor. Driving it at first (before any adjustments) felt like the clutch was still half engaged - couldn't take off well, had very little power. So after adjusting it out it seems to be better - got better pick up and could get it into 4th and 5th gears, up to 70mph. But still, the problems are: -The pedal doesn't want to pop all the way back up (we used bungee cords as a temporary fix) - It engages the clutch when the pedal's pushed to the last 1" - And there's very little power in 1st and 2nd what gives? are there speed/clutch sensors? special instructions regarding the slave/master cylinder? possibly rubber from blown-out clutch behind the pressure plate? Thanks for any help on this matter! |

Clutch pedal.
When you took the bell housing out, the clutch slave was left hanging off the bell housing. Did anyone press the clutch pedal to the floor and extend the slave piston? If it happened, the slave seal may now be bad. Rebuild kit about $25. Should replace the clutch MC and slave at same time. Try to bleed first. No power in 1st and 2nd. Did you recheck the grounds above the bell housing. There is a small wire ground next to the big negative ground wire. Do you have the reference sensors connected correctly? Recheck the 2 connectors on top of the rear engine. Clean connections. Any cracked wire covering? On a recent post, the problem was the bent clutch fork. Did you replace the fork rod needle bearings? Did you replace the guide tube for the release bearing? And yes, a chunk of rubber could be wedged in the pressure plate to prevent release. GL John_AZ 1988 924S + 1987 924S |
