944 Crash tests?
I'm surprised Ncap doesnt bother testing old cars.. does anyone have any footage of one of these things ramming into something at a good speed?
I would assume since its made of solid steel, it bounces off of whatever it hits

pretty sure they did back in 1980's. however, whether or not those were captured on video and then later published onto the internet......
it's prob in the back room somewhere in some warehouse. along with the Ark of the Covenant |

Whats Ncap?
I'm sure the Wiessach boys have some old tapes with footage. I've seen some wrecks on the track, does that count? What are you hoping to gleem from this?

^ Euro NCAP is an organization that tests the safety of new cars.. they werent around until the late 90's, and they never bothered to test cars that came out before they existed.. at least I dont think so

Just a week or so ago I read something on the net - regarding the 944's unibody design/construction, that this was created with some significant refinements in the realm of "crumple zone" technology. I remain hopeful that this is true...in light of the fact that my 85.5 lacks airbags.
On a related note - I read an article in the New Yorker a couple of years back...about relative automobile safety. The verdict? That cars with a less intimate the "road feel," are inherently more dangerous. Large SUV's, for example, which the reviewer equated to "living rooms on wheels," scored the lowest. The highest scoring car was a Volkswagen Jetta sedan. These were then current models, mind you - and I know that based on this criteria, a 944 would be at the top of the list of safe cars - and what a bonus that its such a blast to drive! (hey, all good things in moderation - right?) |

LOL in those days crash test were carry rigth on the race track a crash 917, I beleive it's at Leman anybody recognize the driver.

I do have some in-car of some pretty solid hits - check my youtube channel, 2008 ARRC ITB race... got t-boned by a Volvo 142.
Had some older video of hitting stationary objects, but just recently cleared those, they were quite old.

There were pictures of a 951 on here being parted out last year where a tree was hit straight in the passenger door. The door folded in all the way to the center console.
