Recently I picked up an older Turbo hood, you know the one one with the recessed hood scoop. The deal was too good to pass up, and since I am repairing some paint work on my stock hood on my 1988 924s, why not. My first idea was to just use it for looks, it does look cool. But what if it could me made functional, a kind of ram air induction to the air box or throttle body.
The problem is the old 924 turbo hoods have the scoop on the right side. The air box and throttle body on the 924S is on the left. In addition when the hood is closed, there is not much clearance for the a pipe to cross over the engine. In addition, it has to look good, I cant have something resembling a dryer vent hose. Any ideas, or should I just use it for looks? |

Use it for looks. By the time you twist, flatten, and rotate the air chamber needed to connect the hood scoop to the air box, you'll have lost most of the usefulness.

Cooling vent
+1 on just using the vent to cool rather than ram air. I have a used but good heater core you could hook into the radiator system to give you extra cooling. All you would need to do is to route the air over the area in front of the battery, then down. Or...Mail the hood to Texas and I will do it with my 924S
. As you might have guessed, I have thought about this one. However... I now have 2 Jags and 2 Porsches. Needless to say, I have my hands full. The extra cooling would only be needed on REALLY hard driving OR idling in hot weather with the AC on. I even imagined a fan that could suck or blow air over the second core.

Thank you all for you ideas and insight. You have convinced me to use this hood for show only.

Its not for show (as ideola stated), it will cool your whole engine compartment by pumping cold air over your headers.
