Yes. Why would it take up to a year to get it running right?!?!? If I failed to get it running right ina short period of time I would just pay a porsche tech to fine tune the car for me.

I was gone to abstain myself from giving any reply to your post but the first line in your last reply kind of made me change my mind & I quote (I was not asking advice what to do with my life).Then why are you telling us all the bad lucks you had in personnel life lately such as the car wreck-problems with your truck- owing some money & finally your girl friend living you,this is a technical forum if you want answers about how to fixe your car keep the subject technical ,being a close knit Porsche owners community we feel close to one each other & don't blame the guys for trying to help & give some sound pieces of advice when solving any of your problems either mechanical or personnel. Wish you good luck with your project

Last time I did a straight 951 engine-swap, it took about 35 hours for two people with power-tools and engine-hoist. On another 951 engine-rebuild (cracked block), it took me 55 hours by myself. The time-variable is a huge factor depending upon how efficiently you work and if you have all the correct tools.

Yeah a year! ive seen people spend weekends upon weekends upon weekends getting their car sorted out. Mostly non starts and anything else under the sun. 1 day to 1 year thats the best estimate i can get ya

Ok I decided that im not going to do a full rebuild of the engine unless its ABSOLUTELY needed. Which I doubt. I just have some questions though.

#1: Oil blow by. Some is normal? Or no? How much is to much? What causes it? What do I need to look out for? Its my biggest worry. MY plugs if I remember correctly were all burnt up and kind of fouled with oil a bit. There was some oil in my catch can too.

#2: I know this has been talk about before. 18" wheels,... truly safe?

#3: The wide body front and rear fenders from lindsey,... do they fit with the stock nose and stock rear end?

I acutally want to do minimal upgrades to the engine. Just want to to install either a Tial or Lindsey wastegate along with the lindsey manual booster controller. I think that it. Maybe upgrade the exhaust to a 4" system. I want to replace all the wires, vac hoses, maybe all the sensors, water pump, maybe the oil pump, and fuel pump too. Whatelse should I look into replacing while in there? OH and maybe the PS pump. Because my steering was kind of stiff. I dont remember these cars having stiff steering like that. When doing a U-Turn or something.

The rest I want to do is pretty much handling. New wheels, tires, stiffer suspension, I would side to get the wide body front and rear fenders too. I had trouble with my 17" wheels rubbing even with the front fenders rolled.

Any other suggestions would be great. I called the IRS about my return and they said give them 4 more weeks. That will be a total of 18weeks. Geez.

That doesnt seem that bad to me. I have all the tools I need to do the job. If I end up short a tool I can always get it.

Thats crazy. I doubt it will take me that long at all. I am very meticulous. The way I see it,... as long as everything works, and I make sure I dont miss anything,.... it should start right up with no problems.

mm you are in NJ.. you found a body in California.. so now it will cost you $500-1000 to get it trucked across country. Sounds smart!

I don't know all the personal issues.. but you said in one spot that your girlfriend is keeping the house, but technically you can stay there no mater what.. Curious how that works, legally speaking.. but also, if this "home" is where you intend to do all this work, what happens if she does kick you out? where will this work be done? how quickly do you think all your "project parts" can be disposed of?

No, not everyone in the US is in Debt. I imagine even some 944 owners are not indebt, even if it feels like it. Your "refund".. use it wisely. I don't think rebuilding a $4500 car is the best way to spend $10K.

I don't know much about your truck.. how old, how many miles etc.. but it sounds dubious as well. And money is owed on it? is the truck needed for work purposes? Does it get good mileage? Is it big enough to live out of?

I would consider simplifying your life at this moment.. Dump the '44(s); find a place to live; get yourself "legally" if you aren't already "out of the house" so it truly is hers.. Use your refund (some of it is not hers?) and pay down your debts.. maybe even sell the truck (at least pay it off) and get focused for your schooling pursuits.

I guess one element I am missing is the intrinsic value of the car you are trying to save and why, in this hectic year, are you trying to learn all about automotive rebuilding on top of it all?
