Will 86 turbo struts/springs fit a 86 NA?
I'm refreshing a 86 NA 944 and have found a set of used front struts, springs, mounts (the lot).
1. Will they bolt straight into my NA or do I need the turbo hubs as well? 2.How can I tell if they are from a late (87+) or early offset car? 3. They look to be in good shape but just in case how much is it to get the konis serviced/rebuilt? I already found a set of koni rears, 951 sway bars, and have ordered new bushings for everything. The fronts are the last on my suspension 'to do' list. |
The Turbo parts will fit a NA only if you change out the Spindles also. The Hubs are the same on '83 to 91 944's and Turbos. Different mounting on the Struts for Turbo's and Na's - Springs will work NA's and Turbo's, early and late. Different parts - spindles and Struts on late '87 and up.
If you do go with the upgrade Turbo spindles to fit the Turbo Struts on your '86 NA now the NA Calipers and Rotors will not fit. So you now have to upgrade the Calipers to the Turbo/Brembo Calipers and the larger Turbo Rotors (Nice upgrade). To send off to an authorized shop and have the Struts rebuild/re-valved is almost as expensive as new ones. Go with the INSERT Replacement on the struts and rebuild them your self that way and save allot. The new insert replacement should be Part No. 8641-1038 Sport and they are externally adjustable... See also this thread for the insert replacement ---> http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-924-944-968-technical-forum/337896-weekend-project-pics-koni-inserts.html |
The 86 turbo hubs are different from the 86 na hubs... one year part only.

Thanks guys. So the answer is no, the 951 strut/spring unit won't just bolt in.

Pretty much! I tried this myself, only to be severely disappointed haha!

You can use the front 951 springs on your NA though. And sway- bars if you can find them. They make a significant improvement to handling with minimal spending.

I thought the turbo springs were a different diameter?? Smaller?
|
Is that true?

Same size - tension/spring rate different

Thanks cocacolakid. I thought they would be the same size, just different rates.
