Trans Fluid Change
I'm slowly learning how to do simple fluid changing. Now I want to learn how to change the trans fluid. I looked on Clark's garage but couldn't find how to do this. Can anyone direct me to some where it shows where the two bolts are and how to do this procedure? What Tools are needed...what fluid should I get(I got castrol manual fluid when I got the car (10months ago)).

it's there in the manual - Manual Transaxle Fluid Change
The most important thing is to make sure the fill plug (upper plug) will unscrew before you drain the fluid from the lower plug - because if the upper one is stuck and you just drained the fluid, then you're screwed. Make sure you wake up the bolts before you try to break them loose. What I use is a cat box type plastic pan to drain the old fluid into. Then I use a large transmission funnel and maybe 3 feet of clear plastic tubing to refill.

just under the left side 1/2 shaft (axle) you will see a 17 MM allen head bolt . thats the drain plug . same side (left) 1/2 way up just behind the 1/2 shaft (axle) you will see an other 17MM headed allen . thats the fill plug. make sure you can get the plugs unscrewed before you drain the oil out . put the drain plug in take the fill plug out . fill using ( hypoid )SAE 80 untill it starts coming out the fill plug hole . it should take about 2.0 liters that would be just over 2 QTS so you will need to get 3 QTS of trans oil . if you don't have a 17mm allen you can use a 17mm bolt with 2 or 3 nuts tighten down real tight . if you have a welder put a spot weld in the end of the bolt were the nut is . if the 17mm plugs are real tight and they will be ! you may have to get a 17mm allen socket wrench and a breaker bar . when filling you can use a long about 3 feet of hose sliped over the end of the funnel and just hang it from the strut for the rear hatch with some wire .

The 17mm allen is the hard part. I had to go all over the place to find one. Harbor freight has them but they're usually sold out. Don't bother with auto parts stores, we don't carry them.
I got mine from Sears in the mail.

This job is so much easier if you just get a little hand pump. I picked one up from an auto parts store.
