Penetrating Oils: Seafoam vs. PB, which is better.

I have always been a fan of PB (penetrating blast) brand penetrating oil, but a friend of mine just picked up some Seafoam brand (claims to be "the deeper creeper", and also claims to work "faster than blaster"), after someone told him it is better than PB. But to me, it doesn't smell nearly as good (potent) as PB, so I am skeptikal. Kin I git sum opinions on which is the better product?

I didn't know Seafoam made a penetrating oil. I've seen a couple people here swear by a 50/50 mix of ATF and acetone, but I haven't tried that yet. PB is some of the best stuff I've used, but I'll have to see if I can find some Seafoam stuff and try it.

Dude! An official penetrating oil shootout...how awesome would that be!

It could be that some formulas work better on ferrous on ferrous rust versus aluminum/steel corrosion we have to deal with, or vice versa.

I have used all of these products and WD-40. I continue to use them despite never really noticing any verifiable results. Maybe they do work, I just can't prove it and it definitely doesn't make it more difficult. But for me, waking the bolts up and using impact goes a lot further. Brute force is great but by itself you run the risk of sheering or stripping heads.

Get rid of all the other junk and use the one, the only, penitrating fluid "KROIL".

Cheers for KROIL,
Larry

Good point. I had to put my dog down a few years ago when she got into the garage and chewed a hole into an unopened anti freeze jug. I am careful what I store in my shop now.

As in any oil based solvent product you have to read the WARNING label and store / use accordingly. You all read the Warning label on the product you are now using. Just about everything is a hazard to your health, even some foods.

Cheers,
Larry

if you use the ATF/acetone mix, how do you spray it on the bolt/nut, if it's not on a flat surface? Not being in an aerosol can that is..

This is the best stuff I've ever used.

There is one time, which I remember quite well, that I wished I'd had some. I was removing the rear evaporator on a Suburban that had seen lots of salt from the northern regions. Liquid wrench took over after wasting my time with PB blaster.

That was the hardest, most time consuming a/c job I've ever done. Every union required multiple rounds of heat and oil. 1/4 turn about every 30 minutes on every union. I went through a couple of wire wheels on my dremel cleaning the union threads. It was horrible, and I was the one caught with my pants down by not having the aforementioned oil.

None of the firearms that I own are german-made, other than a high-powered $400 RWS (no doubt, they are the best) pellet rifle. But technically speaking, that is not considered a firearm.

It looks like I opened up quite a debate with this thread. Other than seeing some products that I was not familiar with, there doesn't seem to be anything definitive (so far, anyways). I'm going to have to try the home-made product mentioned, as I do have the necessary ingredients.
