I am getting ready to buy an MSD 6A ignition for my 84 944 and i was wondering how do i install the damn thing? Does anyone have an MSD 6A on their car? how'd you install it? where'd you ground the ignition wire to the key? where'd you hook up the wires to the tac and where did you run them? I am really interested cuz someone is gonna give me a steal price on a BRAND NEW MSD6A ignition. All i need next is the Blaster 2 Coil.

Well.. Skip posted a nice schematic on Rennlist at one point. It looks straight and easy. I imagine you get the schematic with the MSD.

EuroSpec,
I have one on my wife's 924T. I put it on because the DIC went bad & I had to use the 80 model distributor that had some guts in it. This distributor needed a CD box & I figured the MSD was cheaper than the Bosch. It's dark so I'll tell you what I remember. The MSD's come with wiring diagrams. From memory, the MSD has big (#8) red & black wires that connect to the battery. Forgot the color of the wire that connects the switch or coil hot (black wire on 944). Another wire connects to the trigger wire (green wire) on coil. The MSD has a connection for the tach. Since the tach on an early 944 comes off the green wire on the coil through the nine pin plug to the tach, you will have to run a separate wire to the tach. I think it is terminal 6 but not sure. The tach should work this way, an 82 924 does, but on a 914 I had to get the amplifier that looks like a transformer. The MSD has wires running out to put on the coil, where you took the other wires off to hook to the MSD. On the coil terminal 15 is hot from the switch, so hook the + wire there. I'll tell you why I would be scared to put an MSD on a 944. The 6A is a good unit, some of the 7's seem to go, double boxes & a switch is used in Winston Cup. I would be scared because of maybe pulling too many amps on the firing circuit of the DME. I would ohm the MSD trigger wire & switch hot to make sure I had the same ohms as across the primary coils on the terminal. I also wonder what you have done to your 944 to need an MSD. The way I look at it as long as you have the fire to burn all the gas in the cylinder, you are doing OK. The bigger or multiple sparks aren,t going to burn any more gas. On a modified motor real high compression, carbs, etc, you might need a little more spark. drew1 |

when you think about it, for your euro-tuned porsche to not be able to overtake him until you got to 65 is kinda funny! i thought the early 944's were supposed to be the quickest?
okay, even though he smoked you, can i still have a shot? i got one word for you euro: s-o-l-a-r-a! muhahahaha!
