924 s problem

ok guys i am looking to buy a near perfect 924 s with about 80k on the clicker. the guy says that he is having problems with the car running. he says it runs for a bit then cuts off. if he lets it sit for a bit it fires right back up and he is good to go. but heres the problem, he says that sometimes it happens after a week, sometimes it happens after ten minutes, and sometimes he has to let it sit for only a minute before restarting, and sometimes its ten. from what i have been reading it could be

- grounding wires
- DME relay
- DME itself
- vacuum hoses
the vacuum hoses sounds the least likely being that its completely random. any input would be great before i go buying a car that needs a **** loa of work. thanks

the gentleman also said that he has only had it a week and that he has only put ten miles on it so far and its the reason he is getting rid of it

aronapple21,

I am going to give you a list of "No start-Poor run" options.

But, The current owner already knows what it will cost in time and money, and my guess is that he does not want to "have a project".

If you buy the car, you are the guy who has to spend the time and money.

Here is the "Bible" of our cars...look at the troubleshooting pages.

Clark's Garage Home Page

and here is one of many "No start-Poor run" checklists.

GL & welcome,
John

I had intermittent engine stopping on my '84. After I let it sit for awhile (and sometimes after tapping the DME) she would run again. It turned out to be the DME.

Definitely go through the troubleshooting list!

+1^

DME testing is very limited by the non professional. Usually you just buy another (used) DME computer and plug it in or send it to a shop to test. Some will do it for free---IF you buy another from them if yours is bad. It may or may not be the problem or it could be one of many that need repair.

Here is what Clark's says...

DME Relay Information and Testing
