Installing door handles
Got my new outside door handles but cannt figureout the best steps to put them on! If I mount it in place on the door , there is no room inside for my hands to snap the ball & sockets together. I losened the window track on the bottom but I can only touch the pieces that need to snap together. Do I need to remove more of the track. Help!

It is much easier if you snap on the white plastic link and the door opener rod first before fully mounting the outside handle itself. Also the black plastic door adjuster that attaches to the metal drop link leave it screwed down as far as it will go without coming off the metal rod - better than to have it to short and have to pull every thing out again to re-adjust correctly.

Or take the door panel off. Take a couple 10 mm bolts out then do it with the window up. Less chance of scratching the door too.

+1 what cola kid said.
Sounds like you have an 87 and not an 88 or you'd be dealing with the anti-theft mega shield too? Frickin' door handles are about my least favorite job in the whole 944 world.... 2 guys. 1 on the inside of the door, 1 outside. Window up. door panel off. rear window channel loose at bottom.(8mm head). Don't flex it too hard or you'll damage the weld point up top. position rubber seals on handle. Feed white plastic "lock" linkage and black plastic "handle " linkage thru the door hole. This is sometimes easier if you pull the trigger on the door handle. We use a tiny snake light to see inside, then use flathead screwdrivers to support the mechanism in the door AND to pry the linkage onto the 2 ball joints, 1 for the handle, 1 for the lock. Lots of cussing and blaming each other later, the handle works. Then the pot metal pieces in the handle break, and you do it again...

I keep having this issue with my passenger handle, so I finally decided to tackle it. Probably the easiest way is to just take the panel off of the inside and be patient. I was outside long enough to get sun burn and it was just trying to get that ball in the socket that took so long.
