924S front engine lifting eye
I searched for 10 minutes for this pesky thing all around the J Boot area but cannot find it.The rear eye is obvious but I need the front one to suspend the engine from to facilitate dropping the oil pan.
Can someone please send a photo of the thing and its location(the online Porsche engine manual photo isn't clear enough and I cant seem to enlasrge it). The engine has never been out of the car, the head has never been off, so surely it should still be in place, or is it something one has to buy and bolt on?

It's underneath the J boot on top of your alternator.

According to the FSM, you remove the belt cover breather hose and unplug the AFM and there it is below!

Funny you mention this,my 87 924S is missing the front lifting eye too! My 83 and 88 944's have them though? Maybe it was a cost cutting measure ??

I think someone just took them off,great set-up for good lifting ,the balance is spot on.

Thanks guys, I will look for it again this weekend. it is way down the side of engine though, didnt think of looking there. Just got a secondhand engine support beam off eBay so toolwise I'm good to go I hope.

Found the lifting eye thanks for your help everyone. I also saw a sheet metal shield justbolted onto the front of the bellhousing.-do I need to remove this to facilitate oil pan removal?
The engine support beam rubber feet are just too thick for the gutters but the will stand on the wing bolt heads. Do I need to shave the rubber back or is it sufficient to perch the feet on two bolt heads each foot? Or should I make wooden packing pieces the height of the heads for under the feet in order to spread the load more?..

We mount the engine support just inside the fender "gutters."
I think you're talking about the black sheet metal shield that covers the front of the flywheel? If it's in the way, it's just 2 or 4 17mm head bolts, depending on how it was left the last time.
