87 944 5spd into 84 944 5spd?
quick question, or links appreciated. my head gaskets never going to get done by me, and a neighbor needs a tranny, but must buy my whole car

thanks jrb, hate to sell it but cant further destroy my hip joint. your health is very important. I cracked this hip in a wreck 10 years ago, and never checked it out till this year, cracked /splinteredacetabulum.

The 87 and 84 trannies have different (suspension) hanging systems. You'll need to use the system that's compatible with the CHASSIS, not the tranny. You can bolt the early yellow "ears" onto a late tranny.
The 83 944 trannies can only be used with the early chassis cars because they don't have the tunnels on top of the tranny for the two 13mm head carriage bolts. Also, the early trannies have no electronic speedo sender so if you put it in a late car- no speedo reading.
