16V Head Dimension Question
Hi All,
I am in the process of rebuilding the head on my 87 16V motor. It's stripped down and I am inspecting it to figure out what machine work it will require. My question is I am trying to determine if the Block/Head face on the head has been previously machined. Sooo, I measured the distance from the face of the head to the machined lug near the top of the head as specified in the Work Shop Manual (pg. 15-120) and I consistently measure 149 mm, the problem is the manual specifies 147 mm for a new head!!!! I am using a calibrated digital 12" caliper and took the measurement endless times, so I am quite sure my measurement is correct, even verified it with a certified steel rule. Any input would be greatly appreciated for this mystery. Regards Jeff |

It seems like your head is better than new...
Regardless, I think I'd take it in for machining no matter what. Always a chance of slight warping. Also, if there's any gasket marks or corrosion on the head surface, taking 0.010" off will make everything shiny again. |
