Running a little warm

This morning on the way into work the car got almost to the red mark. I turned on the defroster and the fans kicked on but she never got below the top white mark. sitting still she would start to climb up to the red mark again, but as soon as I started driving back to near the top white mark.

Heat was blowing hot but thinking a water pump. Any more thoughts out there.

Could be the radiator fans not coming on. Or a split radiator hose. Are the hoses old, or are you slowly loosing coolant?

Start the car and let it get hot and open the hood to see if the fans kick on.

Just got back in from checking the fans. No leaks, all new hoses.

Getting back to the fans... fans do not come on unless I turn on the Defroster or AC. Swap out the relay from my other 44 and samething. Checked the fuses and all good as well.

Cannot locate the Thermo fan switch must be hidden by a hose or something. Crossing my fingers it is not the pump. This would be another story about a new pump gone bad.

Good news is the fans are working.

Something strange while driving it around. I noticed that the fuel and Temp gauge would jump around when I hit a dump.

The fans are back on, good. Is it still over heating now? Did they just start working on their own, or did you fix something? Make sure the fans keep working or it will over heat again. I have wired a switch into the car so I can turn my fans on while driving if need be.

The gauges? Maybe a ground wire, or something else electrical behind the gauges. Those wires are old and brittle and break easy.

Fans are working but still getting hot. Stays are the third line while driving 40 to 80. But when you stop, right back to the edge of the red.

Something new to throw in now.. From a start a stutters and also a notice in lose of power. Leaning towards the head gasket. Not over heating but getting hot and the lack of power.

Hmmm... Doesn't sound good. Sounds like it isn't the radiator or fans. Check the oil, take off the cap and see if there is any water on the bottom of the cap, or beads of water on the sides of the tube. Also take off the radiator cap to see if there is any oil in the coolant.

Found the issue and was able to repair a few things in the process.

Broken thermostat spring and the door would just flop open and close.
