naming your car??

I have seen this all over and I am sure you have as well, people naming their machines. I see it here alot. I have never done it nor thought about it, my sailboat came with a name so I left it. Why do we do this? Any one shed some lite fro me? Not saying I feel anything wrong with it just was wondering is all..

Mine doesn't have a name yet, but I've called it a lot of things in the two weeks I've had it!

Allen, re-named both of my boats. They say it's bad luck. Never had a problem. I only burned an sank in the Atlantic on a one named boat. Never had a gal name your johnson? Great fun there! My first 944 was the Red Barron, now I own the White Night. Why are boats female, as in "she" or "her." Comes under the heading WTF??? This is a light hearted reply, I don't have the slightest why we name things. I guess it's ownership.

The only name I have given mine is the tried and true: "Money-Pit". Only $500 so far this month, but it isn't over yet.

Well it's always nice to have a reason for naming a car beside being childish.Call my ex 944 Old Faithful because in twenty six years it never left me stranded once.I name my 968 Dream since I've dream of owning one for quiet a number of years now it's done. Was following a Vette with something written in the rear panel between the tail ligths once close enough you could read (I had a dream now I'm driving it)just human nature I guess.

I have read on the "net" that people name their cars because they are in love with them and they name them to have a connection. I have called some of my machines names but never named them.

I'm a fan of car names like "scrappy", "rusty" and "miles" if the name fits...

I had a Honda scooter I named "Dammit" as in "Come on Dammit", "Go Dammit", or the inevitable break down/ parts falling off (like the muffler) "GOD DAMMIT!"

The good old 1984 Honda NH125 2-stroke royal POS. The cool thing is it took about 5 minutes to drop the motor with stuff I kept in the glove compartment. And no, I never went more than 4 blocks from my house with it.

Well, my cars' names are in my signature. (Don't laugh.) But most of the time I call the 944 the Poor Old Dear. I'm hoping a sympathetic tone encourages her to start.

I've had a Mercedes Benz of one sort or another in the fleet for about 10 years. I will occasionally refer to it as "Die Krautenwagen". Other than that, no names. 40 years of vehicle ownership and nearly 100 vehicles, so I guess I'm not a car-namer. Maybe it always felt vaguely dorky to me. To each their own!

Named after my best friend Brian who intorduced me to the marque and stoked my addiction. He passed away unexpectedly in March 2009 - last time I spoke with him, he called from Northam's lot in Winter Park, FL to say "I'm sitting in the car you should buy - 87 951 with 65k." He was gone four days later. Purchased the cab 2 months afterward and christened her "Brianna."
