Installation of 968 Outside Temp. Gauge into 944

So I have an 85.5 944 with a digital dash clock that I do not want and a 968 outside temp. gauge that I want to replace it with.

Any idea on how to properly wire the temp. gauge in so that it operates as it should?

Do you have the sensor and wiring? Sensor is mounted in pass.mirror. IIRC, it does not measure air temperature, but measures ground temp. by IR sensor.

I don't have the sensor or any wiring. Would that all be part of the main 968 wiring harness or is it its own separate unit? Do you have or know where I could find the part number? Would I need 968 mirrors to mount the sensor to?

I can't see how it's possible to mount an outside temp gauge from a 968 mirror in a 944 mirror,like mention the sensor is mounted inside the mirror.Plus the 968 mirror has a complete different configuration then the 944.If you simply installing 968 mirrors on a 944 I'll say yes it can be done.Suggest you check the "Tech Info Center" here on Pelican "Installing 968 mirrors on a 944".

No problem mounting the 968 mirrors onto my 944 - in fact I plan on it. I just never realized that the sensor for the dash mounted outside temperature gauge on the 968 was located in the side view mirror.

Now I just need more information on the wiring of the whole thing - exactly what am I looking for and how is it installed. Someone must have done this before in order to be rid of the redundant old 944 clock.

Like I said, check on top of the page here & click on (Tech Info Forum) there is a write up on how to install 968 mirrors on a 944.

Look at the parts cat. for the 968.
I never really looked at that particular piece.
I'm sure there are "dismantlers" like Ok. Foreign that have mirrors with sensor and wiring.
I have seen 968 parts on different forums, on e-slay, etc.

Sorry - I don't mean to be dense, but it is not the wiring of the mirrors that I am questioning but the wiring for the installation of the 968 dash mounted outside temperature gauge to make it functional in my 944.

Is there already an article here on retrofitting the 968 outside temp gauge into an older 944?

So I have done some digging and found this:

928.641.142.00 Temperature sensor

and

964.612.909.00 Wiring harness

This appears to be the sensor and the harness to the sensor that connect to the back of the outside temperature gauge in the dash. However looking at the back of the gauge I can see quite a few other connections to be made and I know the thing needs power.

Does anybody have any info on the remaining wiring necessary to make this 968 gauge work in a 944?

Extra info:968 interior temp gauge are very expensive so I suggest you look for a use one,part # will be 944-641-223-01C. GL
