Porsche Crest Multiple Questions for a new 944

So, I've made a short list of the things to be done/fixed to restore my newly acquired 944:

Excessive Vibration

Shift boot and linkage (boot is torn and there is a lot of play)

Hatch seal and others

Paint job/bodywork

Odometer troubleshoot and combo oil/volt gauge troubleshoot

Upholstery (minor)

____________

Definitely a much smaller list than when I got my first 944, the '83. But it's different things than I fixed on my old model. Now I'm selling my old 944... I don't want to but I need the money and I've got a late model now...
The engine is from an '84 donor. All seals, belts and gaskets are new (in the engine)
The vibration issue already has a separate thread and is the most urgent...
Second most urgent is the shift boot. It appears to me the inner boot is not even there and the outer boot has an inch in diameter circular tear that must be letting exhaust gas into the cabin, after a while it smells. I put gorilla tape over for a temporary fix and that seems to be helping. Other issues are more cosmetic in nature minus the gauge. Is the gas leak normal? I read something about that happening in other 944's, my dad said that could also indicate a leak in the exhaust? I must love self-punishment, getting another 944

EDIT: Also, I know the antenna is now in the glass now right? Is it normal for reception of AM/FM to be worse? That's what I'd expect but it seems much worse, I can get only one station strong, instead of many in my '83.

I get pretty poor reception as well, but I'm not sure if it's from the crappy radio one of the previous owners installed or a poorly designed antenna.

new shift boots will help some to eliminate exhaust/fuel smells, but if the foam block between the torque tube and the shift hole/body has rot then you'll need to replace it also.

But I think your dad's right, you need to fix the leaky exhaust too.

Check balance shaft alignment or motor mounts. Fix this sooner rather than later as excessive vibration causes all sorts of problems like loosening hardware and possibly breaking the oil pickup tube.

The inner boot is what seals the cabin from the transmission tunnel, so definitely replace it.

Check that the antenna booster is hooked up to the radio. The booster is located in the upper right hand corner of the dash, next to the glove box. Another thing is make sure your windshield has an antenna.. might have been replaced with a no antenna windshield (much cheaper).

I'll have to look again for the foam... I never even thought of that. Does it have a part number? I am not sure where to start with the exhaust.. it might be related to the last owner welding on a straight pipe... this Sunday I have to weld the catalytic converter back on.

Okay! I think the previous owner did replace the windshield, I hadn't looked for an antenna, is it very visible? I'd be looking for a black wire correct? If the antenna is absent what are my options?

You will see a black line down the center of the windshield if it has an antenna.

If it dosent, you can just get a universal antenna that sticks to the windshield.. had one on my n/a that worked pretty well.
