why the faster i go that harder my brakes are you push?
So today i was going a little bit of a lot over the speed limit and when i pushed on the brakes they where really reallllly hard to push in, and it took really long to get the car to slow down. I had to down shift to slow down because cars where coming up quick:eek:. Driving in the city or just driving normal they work great, nothing wrong with them. Anything over 85 or 90 slowing down feels like i have no power brakes along with no brake pads.

Bad brake booster probably

+1 on the booster, or crappy/glazed pads?

Or are new pads ( and proper break-in ) the only solution? If a non-leaking booster passes the "ignition off - push pedal - pedal hardens - start ignition - pedal recovers test" how else to determine booster's imminent failure? Thanks as always |

Pads are cheap. Easy to replace. Do them first and see if the problem goes away. If it doesn't, look at the booster and the vacuum lines going to it. Get a power bleeder and flush out the brake fluid. Start with the blue stuff and next year, do it again with the gold stuff. Yearly service of the fluids is a good practice and with the power bleeder you can do it in less than a 1.2 hour.

I had the same problem in my 951 and replaced the booster (which is a real, flamin' SOB), only to find the problem persisted.
The culprit ended up being the venturi. I did a venturi delete, running the brake booster vacuum directly from the manifold and voila, I've got excellent brakes. The moral of the story is to check your vacuum lines before spending multiple hours upsidedown under the dash... |
The problem sounds much more like a check valve failure than a vacuum booster failure. Check the lines to the booster first (NA cars don't have the venturis like the turbos do, so it's not possible for your problem to be the venturis), especially any one-way valves designed to "trap" vacuum in the booster.
Also, obligatory "what the hell are you doing at 85-90 around Federal Way, WA where the max speed limit is 60?" comment. |
Thanks for all the tipsguys. I wrote them all down no gonna see if i can go fix it.
High way 167 was pretty much empty on my way back from school in south hill, i saw a huge gap and i thought i might get a little tast of what she can do. I know i know not the smartest thing to do. |
Top speed test with dodgy brakes?
