Do you like to drive in the rain?

Last couple of days where I live, we've got rain, rain and rain.
I do not like driving on I-95 in the rain, but if it was regular street and there ware no one around (I don't want hit no one), I love it. I can test my car control ability in relatively lower speed than when it was dry. For the same reason I would like to heve skinyest tire on the car.
Do you?

Cool

Personally... the 944 stays in the garage during any rain. Rainy nasty weather duty is performed in the Suburban diesel 2500 series 2wd with 285-75-16s (monsterous tires). The truck can take on about 18" of standing water without any problems. The snorkle in the 944 is probably only 6" above the ground... my neighborhood sees water levels like that after one of our bigger afternoon downpours. You've been getting alil more than we are here in central Florida, but each of the big afternooners we've gotten in the last couple days have dumped more than an inch of rain in a half hour or so.

I love driving in the rain. It's fun. I miss it though. Not enough rain here recently in California

I can only stand it a couple times each year...can't stand what it does to the appearance of my car when it dries out.

Hi,
Thank you for your posts.
It's been raining since the morning here, does not seem to stop any time soon. I wish I can send it to my friends in CO.
Suburban must be fun(scarly) to drive in the rain, with such high CG point and softer/longer suspension. I had Ranger pick up truck with automatic trans in 97 for a short time. I could turn on a dime with gas and brake pedal both applied at the same time while making U Turn. It was fun. It's too bad I had to return the truck to the company I was working at the time. I borrowed it while my car was in repair.
I wish I can send rain to CA, too.
There are car owners with preference, who like what the car does and who like how the car looks. Anywho we love our cars, aren't we?
Well my wife asked me to go for some grocery shopping while she takes kids to the Japanese school. I must drive in the lovely rain now . I hope grocerys stay put .

My last spin was in the rain at Road Atlanta, turn 6. Fortunately, I did not hit anything.

I need to improve my rain driving abilities, so I do not mind driving in it, especially on the track!

However, for daily commuting, if it is raining, the 944 stays in the garage, and the Subaru comes out to play!

Yes, P-car year round. If you won't drive the car in the rain around here, you might as well sell it. My daily driver is a pick up, but that's because I need to haul things pretty often. We autocross in anything. My first couple of wins were in heavy rain. As much as I don't like rain on autocross day, if I get a win, I'm happy.

Hi,
Good going for Dantilla. To win in the rain must be more rewarding than winning on dry tarmac. It takes a lot more of finess in wet than dry. I have never be on the race track in my life, to drive. I always dreamed of it, but making ends meet takes first priority here. So I am in make believe world when I am driving in wet. I become Ayrton on Donington Park in 93. I am chasing Prost on the streets of Monaco in ,,,was it 85?

Is your Subaru 4 wheel drive?
I've never driven 4 wheel drive cars, let alone in wet. It must be really fun.

My Subbie's AWD, which means there's no switches to hit: nothing! Under normal dry conditions, 90% of the power goes to the front wheels, 10% goes to the back. As things start to get slippery, the viscious coupled differential varies the percentage up to 50%. It is quite a seamless application of AWD. Plus it's tons of fun in the snow!!!

Oh, and ya gotta make it out to a track someday: if you are a PCA member, most of their DE weekends (2 days of track) cost around $200, at least in my area. Best $200 you'll ever spend...

i love driving in the rain! my favourite surface of all is right after it rains and the sun comes out. mist on the road, nice and greasy. total fun for kicking the tail out on the 944.

Obin! Finger Lakes! My wife's grandparents live in Seneca Falls. Every time we visit I wish I had the P-car there. Used grampa's Murcury Grand Marquis to go to Cooperstown once- What awesome roads to drive if you have something other than big marshmallows for springs!

Don't drive my 944 in the rain for two reasons.

1. The traction is considerably less. (I could drive slower, but what is the point)
2. Don't like having to clean the water spots (how lazy of me).

Hi,

1. The point is how well you can control your car at any speed. In wet it is easy to skid at lower speed making it a bit safer when you make a mistake, I think.
2. If you like, speed you may consider other transportation/vehicle.
3. If you have car a with faded white like mine, you don't need to worry about spots.
4. If I could afford, it will be WRX, the next car. I have driven three Subarus in my life. First one was Subaru 1000. It was in 1978. The car had colom shift and spare tire in engine compartment. May have been air cool too. Possibley did not make it to this side of Pacific. Second was in 1982 when I was in Miami. I foregot what model. Third was the odd lookin one. Not the top model but wedge shaped one. I con't know if it was 4 wheel drive. In any case none of them were mine.
