Hose Exploded in car HELP!!

hey guys back in october my porsche's control arm broke on the highway. my porsche has been sittin in my driveway since, i start the car and let it run for about 30 min to 45 min everyweek and let it idle. i've noticed that everything i do that though the cars acting weird. Today i let the car run and i came out to it pased the red point on the coolent this has never happend, i turned on the fans and no heat came out. so i reved it slightly cand my heat level went down, i continued to do that intill the level was back to normal. all the sudden the rpms droped and smoke came from under the hood alot of it i shut off the car and opened the hood. all the coolent in the car was gone it dumped all over my driveway. i cant find where the hose exploded it came from the back of the engine near the firewall but i felt all the hoses and couldent find any tears ideas!!

Maybe the heater control valve between the engine and firewall failed? You didn't say what year your car is but in early cars they have a plastic valve that do get brittle. If it wasn't a hose and towards the back of the motor this might be it.

Had this go in my late car - but the coolant system operated fine up until the valve broke in half. It was running hot when it did it, but I was in stop and go traffic, so not too surprising.

Car looked like a shuttle launch pad when it broke.

My psychic skills tell me that the coolant line from the heater control valve going into the firewall is busted.

Why did your A-arm break? Are you going to upgrade to aftermarket ones?

It's not a good idea to let the car idle for 30-45 minutes. Even five minutes. I try to not let any car idle for longer than a minute.

There's different schools of thought on the whole "starting the car regularly, even when not driven" thing - basically either starting it regularly or not. I don't start it regularly just to start it.

That said, it obviously did expose a problem, and its better it happened in your driveway not moving!

Take care and happy holidays!

Ball joinf came completely out and the wheel dmacked back into the fender boeing it out, shredded the tire and cracked the wheel the alighnments off and the whole strut assembely came off... the only thibg that saved me from getying killed was the car was low enough where the tire tucked in completly

Somebody needs to attend to basic maintenance before the car dies of neglect.

Oh my damn! That is literally my worst nightmare. Glad you (and the car) are okay. Luck is an understatement.

On some cars if you lower them too much you can lever the ball joints apart while driving.

As for the heater valve, some people get one for a mid-80's Audi 5000, some designs are stronger than the Porsche plastic one. Price is about the same.

This is the common part these days:

For my own educational purposes. Why is it not a good idea to let the car idle for any point in time beyond a minute. Is letting the engine warm up a bad thing?

I always thought warming up engines was better for them than taking off and putting strain on a cold engine. Educate me please.

Yes, but idling for more than 30 seconds is a waste of gas. You do need to drive the car nicely to get it up to operating temperature.
