widest tire on stock cookies

what is the widest tire you have put on your stock cookie wheels? I was thinking of going a little wider than stock for the rear.

Widest stock cookies are 7x15. I've run a 245 Hoosier on that size wheel before. It was a little "too much" from a sidewall buldge perspective, but they fit.

What size were you looking to run?

I was thinking of a 55 width for the rear but keeping the stock size 215/60/r15 for the front. just wanted to make the rear a little more "fat" but keeping the hight the same. so maybe 235/55/ for the rear?

You might consider locating some spacers or adaptors to push the whole wheel "out" towards the fender lip if this is merely an "appearance" preference.

Also not sure what 15" sizes are still available.. may be hard to find a brand that offers a "staggered" set up.

I race on 225/50/15 Hoosiers on cookies.

A guy once showed up to a PCA autocross with 285s mounted on 7" Cookies. Looked absolutely ridiculous, and he couldn't understand how I could be so much faster with my "skinny" 225s.
Sidewalls must have been flexing all over the place. Suprised a tire shop would even mount them for him.

225/50 tires have pretty short sidewalls. Looks fine on lowered race suspension, but for a street car 225/55/15 would be more appropriate.

I thought that was wide until I read this......

Crazy! 245 is crazy, but 285? That sounds impossible. Even with 245's I'd be worried about the tire not seating properly.

Madness!

Take care!

Looked impossible. Only time I've seen tires that had a triangular cross section.

He was a really nice guy, but after coming out a few times and not improving, we didn't see him after a while.

So what's the "best" tire size for my 7Jx16 and 8Jx16? I currently have 205/55 and 225/50, which is stock for 951 Fuchs, right

Been thinking about it all night, I may just stick with recommended size of 215/60/15 all around, but the front tires are almost new and the rear are mixed and very old. The 1 tire on back has a much wider foot print than the new front and are exact same size. So I guess I will fine 4 with a very wide foot print that are the correct size.

I like driving 944s that have same size tires front and rear. The stock staggered sizes on the 951 induce mild understeer, yet the cars are more fun at the limit with neutral handling.

225/50/16s on all four work really well with your wheels.

245/45/16 is another option, but 245 is getting wider than optimal on a 7" wheel. Plenty of guys just step up one size and go with 225/50 on the front and 245/45 on the rear.

Unfortunately, tire selection in 245/45/16 is getting pretty slim. I've got 17" wheels on my 944 to take advantage of the better tire selection available in 17" sizes.
