Exclamation Help! Front driving/fog lights

Can someone please help me. I have an 83 944 with the front driving lights stuck on. I've removed the fuse from No.15 position, still on. I've removed the switch from the console/dash (below the 3 guages), still on!
Am at a loss as to why this has just happened, car on lights are on, car off lights are on, key in ignition or out of ignition lights are on. There has been no modifications to the lights, and no electrical modifications apart from a stereo upgrade 2 years ago. Has anyone ever had this problem?

Thanks in advance,
Martyn

Sounds like a short, or something. I presume they were working using the switch earlier?

You can isolate the circuit they're on by removing the other fuses one by one till you find it.

I'm not sure what you do when you find it. I'd be thinking about maybe wiring around it.

It must be a short in the fuse box from the fog light side of the fuse to the fuse next to it. Try pulling the adjacent fuses.

there is also a relay for the foglights up above your right knee - could be it's stuck - it's up there pretty good - if i remember it's a black plastic one about 1 x 2 inches

Thanks so much for that. It wasn't that relay after trial & error, the fog lamp relay, called the "additional headlight relay" was mounted on the fuse board. So.... I've now replaced that and got front fog lights but have now lost my RH park lights, front & rear. I've replaced the bulbs thinking that maybe that was the fault but no, anyone else had this problem?

Thanks so much for helping:-)

This is kind of random, but it may just possibly help.

If I leave my turning indicator on when I turn off the ignition, the front parking light (and I think rear light too) go on and stay on on the side that the turning indicator would have been on. (If that makes sense.)

I've no idea if this is a wiring issue in my car, or some weird Porsche feature. I never thought about it much, since it otherwise affects nothing.

But it does suggest the wiring for the front parking lights and rear lights must be either connected to, or capable of getting messed up with, the turn indicators.

That would possibly explain your most recent symptoms.

I doubt this will help, but just in case...

The front and rear turn signal lights will stay on for the side the turn signal switch is selected to with the ignition off by design. This is a "safety" feature that allows the side of the car facing the street to be illuminated on narrow streets at night time to reduce the chance of the car from being hit.

Ditto, my car does the same. Didn't know it was a feature, first time it happened I was a bit concerned

This is an Europen Feature for road side safety.

Cheers,

Am going to "dive" into that fuse box again to see if there's anything else wrong there. Everything looks clean tho, 42,000 mile car that's always been dry. Hopefully it's just No 13 or 14 fuse. Haven't tried the European park light feature so once I've found this problem will try that as all cars sold here in NZ would have been Euro spec cars.

You might want to look through the wiring on the underside of the fuse-box, too...
