924---what next?!
Alright. New starter. Check. New alternator, minus condenser, check. Fresh belt. Rebuilt wire harness. New battery cable.
Two wires from alternator to starter, contact with battery cable at starter. Black wire to top left screw on starter Red wire to bottom left screw on starter. Blue wire to alternator. All wrapped up nicely in a heat protective sheath. I now have no dash anything. Clock ticks, head lights come on and pop up, car fires up, but no dash. Turn signals on dash both show illuminated,thats it. Did i miss something while rebuilding the wire harness? Or did i lose something else that i couldnt see on fire? |

I have established the power wire to feed the dash isn't getting power. Is there supposed to be a jumper from the alternator to the terminal on the starter?

Your main power feed to the fuse panel should come from the battery, I believe.

Ok well pop quiz.. If the excitor wire doesn't activate, will power run through all the meters still? Tach volt instrument panel ect?

I seem to remember something about the battery light bulb being a resistor for the circuit and if it is blown, things don't work. Might be totally irrelevant.

Sounds like you could use a wiring diagram. . .I think they are on Pelican someplace.

I've wired everything according to the wire scheme. I found a lot of the wires in the dash fried too. I did a quick patch of wires and regained all my clusters, but alt was only reading out at 10v and excite wire still had a weak connection. I'm replacing the wires best I can. Is there any where else I should check at this point?

so incase anyone comes across this and says well what did that idiot do next... well I was going off the volt meter in the car. I bought a multi meter later. My voltage meter in car reads at 12v now. My multi meter reads 14.1v at the battery while running.
At that, car should be in operable running condition now right? could have the electrical fire just messed with the in car meter? |

Behind the center gauge cluster, add another ground lead to the firewall behind the center speaker:
Electrics Also triple check the ground blooms behind the dash, they corrode at the drop of the hat. Clean them up and add some vaseline or dielectric grease to protect them. Hope to see you at the Portland Historics!
