Momo 8010 steering wheel hub for my 84

Just got my Momo hub but when I test fitted the gap between it and the steering column surprised me, anyone else? Couple of pics of the stock wheel and the new Momo in place. Thanks Ralph

They usually have an accordion-like rubber cover that covers that up...

are you talking about where the face of the boss meets the face of the hub or the uncovered structure of the boss (like emoore is eluding to)

Where the base of the hub meets the steering column. I'll check in the morning to see if the accordion like cover extends down that far. Thanks. Ralph

That's an OMP adjustable wheel spacer, the blue part in between the wheel itself and the adaptor, BTW.

Thanks guys, but the rubber accordion fits perfectly down to the part that sits on the steering column, here's a pic. Check the gap, it's twice the size of the OEM wheel. I do have the correct hub, 8010 and I spoke with Momo who's thought was that Porsche used different steering columns and that could be the issue. I going to call the retailer today for their thoughts on what I should do. The car was manufactured 1/84. Ralph

I'm pretty sure mine doesn't have that gap. I've got that hub and an '84 944.

Thanks Harold, would you mind posting a pic of it mounted in your car like the one I did above? Ralph

My car's out with the mechanic at the moment but when it returns next week and I fit mine up I'll let you know how mine works.

Thanks Chris. I've been working with the retailer and he's doing everything he can to help even to the point of getting some different hubs in from Italy so we can see if they work better. I really want to see a pic of an 84 with this hub in place; I'll also need to know the date of manufacture of the car to see if that has an impact on my issue. Ralph

Absolutely. Mine's definitely an 84 944/1 so we'll either know what's going on between our two adaptors - or we'll both be in the same boat, come early next week.

Ralph, in that second picture you posted it looks like the gap is bigger at the top than below. Is your steering shaft bent or is that an optical illusion?

jeez Chris you scared me! Just ran out to the garage and put the hub on checking with a flashlight to see that it is indeed an even gap all around. Really looking forward to seeing how yours looks and when the car was built! Ralph

I'm not going to be around the car again until at least 7/14, but I'll try to remember. I'm almost certain it's the 8010 because it was the one Pelican listed for the early 944. I don't know the build date of my car.

looks good 944, now I need a close-up of the Momo Hub where it meets the steering column like the photos I posted above. BTW, what year is the car and do you know if the hub is an 8010? Thanks, Ralph

Hi Ralph

I appear to have the same problem.
Did you ever resolve the issue?

Thanks,
Roger

Good morning Roger, I sold the car about 2 years ago but if I remember correctly after installing the hub and tightening everything down the gap did reduce somewhat but not nearly as small as the original and I didn't notice the gap after a short time. Ralph

Yeah, something's not right there- I have the same 8010 hub installed in my 84, and there's very little gap there:
