I used cheap ebay chips in my older BMW's and they were fine,but be aware that the cheap ones can overfuel the engine,the timing curve can be less than ideal also and cause detonation that in the 944 will ruin an engine FAST (no knock sensor).
I believe the Wilks and 944Max chips are the best and for the money are cheap horsepower so no contest really.
