Help with overheating
I have a 1985 Porsche 944.
Recently my engine overheated while in traffic. After that happened I was told by a Mechanic (only works on European cars), that I needed a new water pump and that i should also replace the Thermostat and Timing belts. The new water pump and thermostat are already in the car but for some reason the car still overheats and the cooling fans don't turn on. I just replaced those fans 2 months ago. Any tips on what i could be? |

How long were you overheated in traffic?
How long did you drive the car overheated? Why did you replace the fans? Were they still working? When you replaced the cooling fans, did you get a new fan relay switch attached to the radiator? What I am trying to find out is if you overheated the engine to a point that the head is warped. Welcome, J_AZ

Armen944:
You can also Use Redline "Water Wetter" (Pep Boys) with a 70/30% Glycol/water mix. That should help to cool things down at least 15-20' Degrees... Usually Head starts to warp (aluminum) after +10 or more min. of prolonged +224'F Engine Temperatures. Also Your air/water cooler may be blocked (side of engine where oil filet is located). See "Clarks Garage" for details... Later...

Opps-Ammendment: Your "Oil-coolant Internal engine cooler" (Heat exchanger) May have to remove it to verify Its not blocked/clogged. Later

Cheap and cheerful: have you checked the fan fuse? Jumpered the fan switch on the rad to verify they're getting power?
