here is a strange question

I have an 02/83 944 so yes it's early, my clutch master finally went out after on and off driving for 4 years as I get it back into shape. So I get a new clutch master and tonight go to put it in, when I took the old one out I noticed that the push rod was bent slightly where it goes into the master. The new master's push rod is perfectly straight as I thought it should be. My clutch is always smooth and easy to push by the way. With the new master in the push rod rubs so I put the bent one in and it's perfect. The angle is obviously off between the mount on the peddle and the mount of the master, some time someone bent the rod for this reason. Okay my question is, could the peddle be from a different model ? every thing looks fine the firewall does not appear damaged nor does the peddle mounts. Any ideas?? It has worked perfect all this time this way but I can't see it being right. Thank you Alan

Could it have been caused by the firewall flexing and causing misalignment? The firewalls are a known weak point on the early cars and it just might have bent and settled like that but still work ok.

9ff thanx for the reply but I looked at all very well and it is fine, the brake pushrod is perfect and straight. I was doing some research just now and found that the early 924 had a cable for the clutch. I looked and on top of my clutch peddle is a hook that goes no where but looks to me like what I see on a cable pull clutch where the cable end would hook on. I wonder if some one drilled and welded a pin for my push rod and used an early clutch peddle??

Thnk you for reading but I went back out and took some pictures where I could not see and there was a patch welded in and painted over but the angle is off this is why they bent the rod. Well it is all tight so I see no need to do anything about it I will leave it as it was. Worked all this time anyway.

Yes there is a patch fix for the firewall and yes you are probably right if that was welded in incorrectly.

If it works fine with the bent rod I'd live with it, not worth messing with.
