Talking Quick battery/battery cover question

Hi all,

I just picked up a 1984 944. Just ordered a bunch of parts for it, including a battery cover; they won't arrive for the better part of a week, but I have to buy a battery tonight. Can anyone confirm (not guess) which size battery the cover actually fits?

Thanks,

Tony K.

Might be a complex answer.

IF you buy a Bosch Group 41 battery the battery top measures 6.25"x11"
The overall outside measurement of the Bosch group 41 battery is 6.75"x11.5"

What is the inside measurements of your battery cover?

Now however if you get an Interstate Battery or other brand the battery cover may not fit at all.

New batteries should be purchased within 6 to 9 months of manufacture date. Make sure you do not get a battery that has been on the shelf for 18 months or longer. Even if the warranty date starts when you buy the battery, it is NOT fresh and will need to be charged just to bring it up to use. Not Good.

Not sure this helps.

That's a better question, John -- What are the measurements of the battery cover?

Anyone?

Thanks!

I didn't know there was a battery cover? I don't remember one on my 83 and there isn't one on my 85. Up grade, add on?

If you get the Duralast 48DL battery from Autozone, you'll get one that fits your cover and battery compartment. The additional feature is that it has a vent drain stub coming out of the top between the two terminals. I prefer this feature because I get some 3/8" clear tubing and heat the end so it slides on the stub while it's soft and push the other end down the drain hole into the fender well on the passenger side. This eliminates more rust in the battery box. You'll have to notch the cover a bit to get the tube out but it doesn't affect the cover from closing down on the battery.

Some people try to turn back their "odometers." Not me. I want people to know 'why' I look this way. I've traveled a long way and some of the roads weren't paved.
