Is this supposed to attach to something or not?

My '87 924S ( like 944 ) pictured below is my DME unit , the harness and my stray circled in red, "Plug connection for speed sensor" ..but cannot find anyplace to plug it in to . Is this just for diagnosis or is mine unplugged?

Thanks Austin

Why not post this in the 924/944 forum rather than the turbo one? You will get more hits.

Just took my '84 apart awhile ago. Noted the pigtail on the engine harness near the pedals and the other end up behind the instruments. Look up behind the speedo from the pedal area.

That goes to the Tach on my 944 -- Tach wasn't working when I bought the car. Found this 2 pin plug disconnected. plugged it in and presto -- tach has worked ever since.

Does this branch off the loom close to the DME ? I took a quick look at mine and only saw two ,2 wire connectors close to DME. My dash is off but all connectors are connected to track down an intermitant fault. Let me know how far from DME and if it branches off the main loom to DME and I'll take a better look. This is from early 87 ;I have a complete harness on the floor from a late 87 and it has some differences

Pretty sure it's where the "coding adapter" or "impedance adapter" plugs into.

Canada and US (minus California) don't have them and are left blank as you found it.

Hey neighbor (maint), where is your car from originally?

It has been in BC since 1993, before that I don't know. It is US spec (just looked it up). That explains some of the wiring differences from the parts car.
