Control Arm bushings + Outer tie rod tip
Today's reasons for vulgarity are related to the title. First, the control arm bushings. The rear bushing went on only after a decent bit of sanding and a couple dozen hits from a 2lbs. sledge. This seems wrong to me, but I'm rolling with it for now. The front bushing will simply not go in, despite liberal lubricant and some playing with a C-clamp. It's in the freezer now, so perhaps that will solve this one.
The second problem is removing the outer tie rod tip from the tie rod. Getting the tie rod end out of the steering knuckle was cake (remove pin, remove nut, hit twice with hammer). On the other hand, holding the tie rod end with vice grips and using a 13mm wrench on the tie rod has yielded only minimal rotational motion and a sore hand. Doesn't this thing have to get adjusted when you have your alignment done? I'm about to go for a torch on this one... Suggestions are appreciated. I'm turning to drink to avoid beating my head against a wall.

HA! I just had to take those off myself.
The first tie rod end took forever doing exactly what you mentioned, but for the second one, I discovered that if you twist that nut at the end of the tie rod end so it goes UP instead of DOWN, once the nut and tie rod are separated, the tie rod will twist off on its own (at least for me it did). ![]() Let me know if this works for you as well ![]()

Rightio, starryknite... Around 3AM last night (as I tossed in bed thinking about this issue), I said to myself, "Self, isn't there a locking nut on tie rod ends?". Mildly embarrassing, that.
While berating myself in the early morning, I also developed a solution to my other problem, which I will record here for the next poor soul who needs to do control arms. Sizes in imperial, as it's more easily findable here in the US. Ingredients: 1 - 3/8" x 5" carriage boltAssemble with a 3/8" and 5/8" washer on the right (see pictures), 3/8" washer on the left. ![]() Apply liberal lubricant of choice and tighten (takes a 3/8" wrench to hold and a 9/16" wrench to tighten). After bottoming out the bolt, I got the last quarter inch with a few judicious whacks with a rubber mallet. ![]() Total cost: $3.10. It took less time to insert the gasket than it took to find the wrenches.
