OT: National Tire & Battery

These guys here in my area must be the new breed of rocket scientists. This has to be a Darwin award winner. I took it in for an alignment about 2 months ago, well they aligned it alright. It appears that when adjusting the tie rods they decided to do the adjustment at the rack end where it is supposed to be torqued to 36ft lbs. I'm sure you guessed what happend yesterday, right front tie rod came completely off the rack. Luckily it happened at about 2mph, not 70 which is the posted limit on the highway I just pulled off. A huge thank you to the man up stairs for watching over me and the numerous other drivers on central Texas roads. Be warned about this place, and stay away!

So R ya gonna sue em, or what? Better Business Bureau? Are they ASE cert. mechs? attack thier license? I know someone that would be wearing a tie rod for a rudder.

Yes you should do something! However The Better Business Bureau is worthless! Everything they do or say is bought & sold...Making their word, worth nothing!

On tghe other hand, when I bought my 944, it had a set of Dunlops on it that looked like brand new but on closer inspection had cracks in between the tread cuts on all four. I took it to NTB, the assistant manager looked at it and said "Dunlop owes you a new set of tires, Dude.." He called them, would not take 'no' for an answer, ordered the tires and all I paid was the sales tax. It isn't so much the chain as it is the individual store and the folks who work there (even the guy who installed the tires actually looked up the torque specification when installing)

Sadly, that specific outlet was closed soon after so I never had a chance to write to the company and tell them they had one heads up assistant manager. (went back to get his name and the store was closed)

Hey now, the BBB is not worthless. If they receive enough complaints about a merchant they forward it to the state attorney general's office and then the headaches start for crappy merchants instead of the unfotunate consumer.

The only bad side is that occasional bad service or negligence isn't fraudulent or otherwise illegal.

Did you contact them? What was there response?

I called and compained, but the store manager was not in, the technician wouldn't be in till the next day. I have to wait until Wednesday or so to get a spacer, bushing to get it back together. I'll have a little chat with them when I show up.
