What did you pay / put into your 944?
Here's our chance to see what you all have done to your rides...and what you paid. This was a great topic when I had my 911...
I bought my 944 for $3,550...got a great deal;spent most of its life in California and was repainted four years ago. ![]() ![]() ![]()

Some of us with "other responsibilities" would really rather not know! :-)

interesting, but can be painful, topic.
sometimes we really don't want to know...... my bro-in-law wanted a toy car, but could not afford to buy my 928. found a very nice 87 944S for $2K. not running, but cosmetics were good and did not see anything that scared me. PO story was plausible. near perfect interior. original paint that has buffed up very nice. ended up putting about $3K into it. after diagnosing the failed fuel pump, new fuel pump, hoses, and filter. sent injectors out to clean, car had been sitting for about 3 yrs. she fired up. then added new tires, shocks, rebuilt brakes and rebuilt AC. total expense $5K. that was just cost, put a little sweat equity into her. he has been driving it most of the time weather permits for about 1 1/2 yrs. just serviced it, and still running great. but next in the agenda is repl engine bay fuel lines and TB/WP. pics are from PO. ![]() ![]() just got my 951 project car fired up this past weekend. still some work to do before it hits the road. paid $3500 for it as a project car. not sure but probably >$5K in parts now. I just keep stuffing the receipts in a folder. PO and Son both had running street 951s. PO got as project with bad motor. got a 'good' used long block installed. when I was installing the intake, looked down and the intake valves look new. almost no wear mark on the valve stem. but scoped the spark plug hole and see very moderate carbon on the pistons. so the head/valves may have been redone. After the PO got the long block, he did a new/rebuilt clutch/PP, new timing / balance belts and WP installed, got it in the car, then ran out of enthusiasm. not a rebuild motor, but allegedly a good motor, and they had the turbo rebuilt and mod'ed. and has factory LSD. as I have just fired it up, did not even rev it up beyond 3k. ran and sounded great. will be my new DE/track car. lots of Lindsey racing stuff added. dual port WG, 3" full exhaust, manual boost controller, chips, all new coolant/VAC hoses and belts, 3X oil cooler and billet high capacity radiator. what I got - plus boxes of parts and the big stuff filled the back of my truck. ![]() most current pic as I was completing the assembly.

I very rarely spend over $2000. I will look for cars with nice interiors and exteriors, but might need a transmission (on $200) or engine service and the owner can't do the work themselves or won't spend $185 an hour for Porsche to do it. I'll do the timing belt, water pump, and seals ($300) then flip them for $5-7,000. My biggest problem, of the many, is not wanting to let them go. I have one with all leather accessories, door panels and such, another with really nice sport seats, a few with working a/c, a few I like to solo race, and so on. I really need to sell some...soon.

I got my turbo in October... Traded an old mercedes I had for it which was worth about 3500 bucks. I grossly over paid for the 951. It wasn't running and I picked it up at night. I got it home and found pretty much every thing was bad. I bought most stuff on eBay or used and got it going. I so far have repaired computer, new tie rods inner and outer, timing belt, only 944 shifter, ground control rear coil overs to match what was on the front, new tires, new used turbo, new injector o rings, a new oil pan, steering shaft, harness bar, race seats, harnesses, sway bar bushings, misc interior stuff as most of it was missing, a new tial waste gate and adapters, fixed a massive exhaust leak.... Still have paint and body work to go... It pretty much was the worst 951 I've ever saw and now can be daily driven. I'm not gonna add up what I've spent since October because my wife might see this.

I really don't want to know. After a dozen + years and several shoe boxes full of receipts, it would be staggering. But hey !!!! It's love.

indeed. i was just having this conversation last night. i couldn't find a car that did what this one does at any price. sure, there are faster cars, but they don't have the ability to carry anything. sure, there are cars with a bit more technology, but none of them have the feel of this one. i've been shopping for the past few years for a better car, and i can't find it, at any price. so, i think i'll keep her.
the question now is whether or not to keep the white tiptronic car. that one i have left essentially stock. it only has some bracing, M030 sway bars, a chip and an airbox mod. i am not sure i want to supercharge that one or not, or sell it, or what. i am afraid it will be another long slippery slope of more custom interior stuff, new seats, bigger stereo, yada yada. i could easily find myself dumping $25k into that car before i realized it. lol - it just never ends. |

I just got mine paid 7200. Pretty much ready to go, I've put a few interior bits, new shifter boot, short shift kit, it needs a new stereo, looks great from 10 ft away but it's gonna need paint, needs fog light trim, I'm changing the wheels from 18 inch turbo twist to 16 inch club sports it also needed both engine under tray covers and bat wing I've spent close to 1000 so far. So I'm in for 8200. but worth the smile on my face when I hear her turbo spool.
