How about..........?
You know that a standard 944 S2 has a 3.0l engine, right?
And the Turbo has a.........well a 2.7l Turbo engine.......you with me? And over here in the UK Porsche only ever imported 50 944 Turbo Cabs, yeah? Well............................can't I stick a Turbo engine, with upgraded brakes and suspension, into my 944 Cab and pass it off as a Turbo Cab? .......is it plausable or are you all gonna laugh at me?

Well, we aren't laughing, but we are chuckling a bit.
The wiring and plumbing is completely different between an NA and a Turbo. By the time you were done with it, it would have been cheaper to just buy a turbo to begin with All turbos were 2.5l - the turbo S was a 2.5 with a 16 valve head. AFJuvat

There needs to be a FAQ link at the top of this forum for "engine conversions on 944's."

Well just to be different I will say that swapping engines amongst the the 85 1/2 and later cars isn't that difficult. It is not easy but can be done.
Since all the cars after 85 1/2 used the same chassis all the mounting studs and blind nuts are all on the chassis already. For example the S2 airbox mounts where the intercooler is in the turbo The only good way to swap a turbo into an S2 for example is to get a complete donor turbo. If you simply buy an engine with DME and harness there will be many small mounting parts and plumbing that will nickle and dime the project to death. It also allows to update the suspension and brakes from the donor. For something like a Turbo cab which is unavailable in the US I think a motor swap would be a great project. Just to clarify one other point the Turbo S didn't use a 16 valve head, even the factory 968 turbos used an 8 valve head. Turbo S used a larger turbo and other go fast goodies. Todd

Going on from Todd's comments; at the previous shop I worked at here in the US the owner simply bought a 944S2 cab and a 944 Turbo S and swapped the entire engine, suspension, trans etc.... and ended up with a 944 Turbo S cab and a 944 S2 coupe.
It's not that difficult and then you do have the coupe to sell.....
