oil cooler seals

ok, i'm finally doing my oil cooler seal project and since i have that sludge everywhere i was wondering if i could poor gas, mineral spirits or any cleaner down into the oil filler tube so it goes through the system. i need to clean out the oil pan. how should i go about pouring the cleaner into that? also, can i pour cleaner into the dipstick too? it also has sludge.

i'm also a little confused on the whole adjusting part and the washers i need. what is the measurement i have to take and how do i use the alignment tool?

Use mineral spirits - pour it into the crankcase (dipstick and down the filter housing is fine) and let it sit while you work on the seals - drain and refill with oil/motor flush run engine, drain, refill with oil, repeat after 500 miles.

Will send you a parts diagram when I get home from work tonight.

I am somewhat concerned that you have been driving it this way for a few weeks - all that moisture in your crankcase is not good for your bearings.

ok..how do i get the moisture out then?...also, i have sludge where the upper radiator hose connects to the engine..how do i clean that out too? if i pour mineral spirits into the engine just like i do with regular oil won't the mineral spirits get into the cylinders and stuff? i don't think that's very good for it.

basically anywhere oil and coolant can get i have sludge...where else should i put it that maybe i missed?

You are going to have to take your hoses off and clean them all out with soap and water - same thing goes with your expansion tank etc. - get a bottle brush and start scrubbing.

Flush out what you can in the oil system with mineral spirits - flush the cooling system with a degreaser. You will probably have to do this more than once - after you have degreased the cooling system, rinse well with water a couple times and then fill with coolant.

You will be changing your coolant and oil a couple of times in the next couple of months.

Haven't forgotten your diagrams, should have them tonight.

update: oil cooler seals are in and i've been running the car for 2 days with just water in the coolant system..for some reason i'm still getting sludge in the expansion tank. i'm thinkin it's either: the system hasn't fully cleaned itself out yet, the oil cooler seals are in wrong, or it needs a headgasket..i also have been smelling the exhaust and it's not normal. it almost smells like water and oil or somethin' like that. any ideas guys?
