1980 924 time capsule some questions

I'm the 2nd proud owner of a 10,880 original mile 924. It's original down to the tires and runs perfect. Pinstripe and rear reflector panel along with 8track installed at the dealer, Pioneer Porsche here in Denver.

I do however have a couple of questions. I'm missing a couple of lug nut caps, these are the open ended nuts and each has a black plastic cap that gives the appearance of a normal fuchs lug nut. Any idea on where to source a couple oem replacements?

Are NOS windsheilds available anywhere?

The PO treated the seats and Dash with mink oil and they are perfect, I'm inclined to use the same but can only find the stuff for shoes? Is that the correct stuff to use?

The plan for the car is very limited driving and Concours showing. I just refinished a second set of wheels so it can be exercised without driving on 34 year old rubber.

TIA

Pics, everyone likes pics..

WOW Mike!

The lug nut caps are 321601173A01C and Porsche still stocks them. They list at $0.41.

The windshield without an upper tint band is NLA but Porsche still stocks one with green top tint. The part number is 477845011F. It's pretty pricey and shipping could be an issue. Jim Ellis Porsche will sell it to you for $463.50 plus $150 shipping. Prestige might be able to do better than that as Porsche doesn't charge dealers for delivery, even if they have to ship it from Germany. There's a user in the classifieds who is a Sekurit dealer who might be able to get you an OEM one without the triangle-p for a little less.

Not sure about Mink Oil on the dash.

Mink oil sounds kinda weird, but if it works..... Looks like the shoes stuff is the same: Mink oil - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Good looking car BTW. You ever down in the springs?

I get to the springs about once a year for some Mountain Biking, that's about it.

The Porsche parts system is actually pretty helpful and often less expensive than OEM if you work with the right dealer.

Yes, quite rare I'm told. It's never been in the sun other than when driving, it's fantastic.

Original lady owner was the type of person you dream of buying from. Hand written log book from the day of purchase with every gas fill up logged in, along with oil changes, ect. Kept all the documents ect. Bunch of spares including original red oil filters, air cleaners. She is a parts rep so she knows cars. It took me about a year of politely bugging her to sell it to me. She was going to give it to her granddaughter who was still in college but she didn't want to see it decline in the hands of a non enthusiast.

I won't say, but it certainly wasn't a "deal". I overpaid vs the market by a lot, but I could not pass it up.

When we first started talking she wanted what it sold for new!

I pulled one existing lug nut cap off tonight and it is different from what is currently available. My part number is 321 601 173 8 GSE and it does not have the raised lip at the top. I'm sure the new ones available superseded the originals. Also mine are much more glossy.

If anyone knows how to obtain the originals let me know.

Also, got my second set of wheels back from refinishing and mounted new rubber. My wheel guy made them a little too nice, he sanded out the casting marks and used a clear coat ect. I dig em. Originals can be stored now for shows.

Mink oil? Never thought of that. I have used saddle soap (kiwi shoe stuff). Mink oil might be one step better. I work in a lockeroom at a private golf club, and we sometimes use mink oil on shoes. Both are good stuff for leather. Used saddle soap on my dash once, came out better. Not great, but better.

You might try VW for the lug nut covers, they used them also.

Absolutely beautiful car. I already liked the original 924's but this really makes me lust after a nice example. Most are so ratty we've forgot what a nice one looks like.

Glad you're keeping the miles off and preserving it. Gorgeous

Wow, most 924's are used hard and beat up pretty good before we get to them. That's a rare gem, take good care of it......
