1979 924 2.0l Valve adjustment
Hey guys, i used to be over on the 928 board a bit but I've got more into the 924 world as of recently. So my car has been noisy and i suspected the valves needed adjusting and sure enough when i checked the clearances some of them are far off (according to the haynes manual).
My question today is when i goto turn the hex key to adjust the clearance, it goes too tight, but if i only make minute adjustments it just pops back to its original spot on its own and no adjustment was made. I'm using a 3mm allen to adjust the clearance but it won't stay it just pops back to where it was before. Would like some info on this, thanks.

You turn the grub screw a complete turn (until it "SNAPS" into place) for +/- .002 adjustment for each turn.
Watch that you don't turn it too many times in or out because the screw will lose contact with the follower at some point. If you have to turn it too far to get the valve into adjustment, you need to remove the cam and replace the screw for that follower with one of a different thickness. You need to go to 924.org and search there for the procedure and the differences between the grub screw thicknesses. |
