My Boxster has been making a noticeably high pitched wining sound which I can hear
even while driving on the freeway. At a stop, I traced the sound to be coming from where the radiator fans would normally be. It almost sounds like a mosquito it's so high pitched. It also occasionally makes a much louder but very brief revving-up sound, when at a stop, usually just as I pull into my garage. I have heard of this somewhere before, but the people I spoke with a Pelican have never heard what I'm describing so it makes me wonder if something is going wrong. There have been other electrical issues which my mechanic is sorting out, like a short in the radiator fan wiring that was causing overheating and the car dumping a bunch of coolant through the over flow tube, near the rear of the left wheel just under the coolant overflow tank. He was about to replace my radiator fans but said it was just a short. Then, apparently fixed, both the check engine light starting coming on, and the coolant over heating dash light, both which went away when restarting the car. I'm most concerned about this really high pitched wining sound, it might just be normal operation and now that the short is fixed I'm hearing it for the first time. Any suggestions, other than, check your electrical? |

there's probably something rubbing on the fan blade as its spinning.
or, the motor needs some grease. |
