Help removing PS Rack.....

Help. I'm removing the POS rack from Autozone after only 2 years and less than 5K miles. 1986 944 Turbo

I have the steering knuckle disconnected. I have the 4 primary rack bolts loose and the rack is in my hands. I can't disconnect the 6mm Allen head bolt. The primary one that needs to come off is seized. Clarks web site says to use vice grips to get it off. Is that the only way? Clark's also references hex bolts that can replace the Allen bolts. Does anyone have a part number for those bolts.

Just looking for any ideas as I'm tired of laying on my cold garage floor and swearing at my car.

Thanks and Happy New Year.

Don (I posted the same to Rennlist )

That is the banjo bolt fitting. When I rounded out one on mine, vicegrips did the trick and got it off. It "shouldn't" be that tight, but you never know.

Good luck!

Use a small hammer to tap in the allen socket in to the bolt. This will fully seat the allen head wrench and reduce stripping/rounding, and will also break free any corrosion or sludge. This would have been best done while the rack was still bolted down.

These hex head banjos can be used to replace the allen head ones.

BANJO BOLT - 12MM X 1.50 BANJO BOLT - 26MM UNDER HEX IN LENGTH, REQUIRES (2) 12MM WASHERS - NOT INCLUDED
