Cam housing swap.

Broke the end of my cam while trying to remove the woodruff key.....don't ask. So I want to know if anyone has installed a cam housing form a 86 turbo on a na. The cam is slightly different and I know alot of turbo guys put cams from a na to turbo, but I have access to a turbo cam housing assembly. Has anyone ever done this? Thanks.

The camshaft housing is identical between turbo and NA, from 1982-1991.

The 82-85.1 NA camshaft is the same camshaft used in 86-91 944 turbos.
The 85.2-89 NA camshaft is slightly different, but it is still 100% interchangeable.

Thanks for the advice. I believe that the exhaust lobes on the turbo cam are a degree or two different than that of the na. I hope that it doesn't make that much of a difference.

The turbo cam is the same as the early NA cam.
Your 86 would have a late style one. I'm sure either would work. But I do have a spare one kicking around I can sell. I'm located pretty close to you. It came off my 86. Actually, I have 2 you can choose from.

yes the late na cam has more exhaust duration, 8 degrees iirc.
also IIRC that made the difference between early /late cars putting out 143 vs 147hp.

but you wouldn't be able to tell the difference driving one vs the other in a mostly stock car.

Too late already have a cam. You can still get new parts for these cars from the dealer, not too shabby for a model long out of production. Thanks for letting me know.
