Why is it that when I rev the engine past 1,200 rpm the radio cuts out? Lights in cabin are O.K., instrument lights O.K. fuses O.K., headlamps slightly brighten to 2,200 and then level off. I installed a new voltage regulator and new Wagner Litebrite sealed beam headlights, and a new-to-me gauge cluster. Darn this is confusing. Problem seems to fade after the engine is good and warm. Any help is appreciated!

Check antenna connections, both behind the radio and under the fender. See if it happens with a CD in, which would eliminate the antenna issue (assuming the radio had a CD). Could also be a voltage connector on the back of the radio.

Ignition switch, radio should stay on once key is inserted, and only turn off when the key is withdrawn or powered down by user.

It's the special "Pay attention to your driving" mode, which removes all distraction from the driver as RPMs increase.

I'm serious, ignition switch. Mine would cut out going down the road, a little jiggle of the key, and it would come back on. I've since replaced it.
