EMERGENCY --steering rack questions
got the rebuilt long rack . removed old rack. noticed difference -- little cover plate on the front of the steering gear on the old one has a ear on it that a bracket that supports the high pressure hose from the pump. Thought to myself -- no problem, I'll just swap covers -- they're different too. from the looks of the casting, the rebuilt rack was made in mar 1984 and the old rack just out of the car was made in dec 85. the internals (under the cover) are different. -- exterior, other than the cover they are the same. will the rack work? I suspect so, but there is no support for the bracket -- I suspect the bracket was added due to some 'issues'. Anybody got any info? should I wait and make them send me the right unit (or rebuild mine if they don't have any in stock)?

Sounds like you got the "early rack"
Make them swap it out. AFJuvat

yeah -- I've got a -201 and they sent a -200 differences are small but the -200 lacks the ear that the high pressure hose support is attached to. Covers are incompatable so you can just swap them. They're out of stock so they said they would rebuild mine -- looks like I'll be off the road for a few days!
