1983 944 interior
hey all, just bought a 1983 944. needs work, but hopefully a good buy. anyways. wheres the best place to buy new vinyl seat covers and new carpet kits? I haven't found much info on the carpet kits. also the dash is really cracked, I see Porsche doesn't sell new ones. any ideas how to fix the cracks. thanks

The only way to fix the dash is to repair it with body filler, sand it and re-texturize it with one of the various texture products. Carpets and seats have to be sourced from another car- restoring an interior is no walk in the park and its certainly not cheap, either! There are a lot of wonderful dismantlers in the used parts sections that can get you what you need.

Body filler doesn't hold up in my experience with the 944 dash - tried a few times, cracks reappeared after a few months, it just doesn't stick that well to the dash materials.
Maybe the 110 degree summers influence that here, but... |

For dash restore, I've found Great Stuff expanding foam to be up to the task. 10 months in direct TX sun and counting, one dash fiberglassed over the foam and one is not. The trick is to get it to the same density as the base foam, in my experience. Drop a line if you ever get deep into the dash restore.

I've heard a ton of great reviews of Kyle's seat covers at Only944.com. Great guy, stands behind his stuff, and even does some custom work too.

Benz, there are several posts on how to dash and seat repair. got to do some research,
But before you start, there is no cheap way to do any of this. I would ask you to determine how much do I want to spend - then you will know your options. The other thing you need to ask yourself is " what does the remaining interior look like?" Because the original stuff will look older once you have new interior parts. good luck!

I have an 84 that has brown script seats, black carpet, black door cards, black handles. Check it out on the 944 parts page. The script seats will be steam cleaned this weekend, I know they are dirty!
