Edit its barbed sure but is a SHED find

Stumbled over this recently and am uncertain what I'm looking at - pics are from the current owner. Not sure whether I'm going to take this on, and am waiting for more info and the opp to go see it. Enjoy

Looks like a 924s to me. Do you have a picture of the motor?

Well, that's a 2.0 engine, and G31 snail shell trans, so it's not an S. Does it have a VIN plate?

Indeed -- the transmission should have tipped me off. Could the hatch glass be from a 924s?

Will have more info soon enough - any thoughts on the dash and roll cage?

Looks like a standard 924/931 chassis to me, with aftermarket Carrera GT fiberglass fares. It's a bolt in cage, and no reinforcements in the engine bay, so unlikely to be a factory special. The dash pod is fascinating.

Punch line: I think that thing is bad ass, and worth working on.

That is....if it's OK with "Barb."

The dash panel is similar to the IMSA GTU 924GTR that I crewed on in the early 80's.
This is the dash from George Drolsom's factory built 924 GTR. He had one of the crew members from Brumos apply the plaid covering on the dash similar to what was done on all of the Brumos BFG 924GTR's.

So have spoken with the owner at length today.

it is a series 1 RHD 924 turbo. and not a factory special, but factory special all the same.

The photos posted were taken approx 8 years ago. Today the car while still not complete is mostly assembled.

work done is quite comprehensive with all assemblies on the car been removed and renewed.
Gearbox rebuilt
Engine blue printed balanced and built back to a GT/R spec? though didn't use forged pistons. He also lowered the compression to 7.5.1 with the intention to raise the boost - i believe it has adjustable boost control fitted.
custom manifold made to clear engine bay bracing
Induction is still to be sorted - though has std turbo and also the V8 K jet system they used. Was hoping he would say he ha the kugelfischer set up..but hey
Brakes refurbed and replaced callipers discs. soft and hard lines renewed
Master cylinder
All suspension items replaced new - yellow external adjust konis, bushes, T bars, way bar
all steering items renewed - tie rods , ball joints
new bearings installed to torque tube
GT body kit fitted
totally stripped bare metalled repainted in a very bright white.- interior undersides painted external needs finishing
body is braced in places.
cage is custom and at the time of build was eligible for both CAMS and road use..time has moved on , both counts
other stuff done
needs to be wired.

So still not certain what ill do as I have just taken on a 914-6 gt wannabe project - head says walk away. It is also located approx 1600km's nth of me so its a commitment to get up and have a look

I've learned the hard way: only one project at a time!!!

It sounds like a nice assemblage of parts, but at this point, that's all it is. There will be huge cost and effort required to get this car back together and on the street.

And, do you really trust someone else's build? Another hard lesson I've learned is *never* trust the previous owner! I'd rather have all the raw parts and build it myself than to take a chance on someone else's unknown build quality and detail.

I'd run from the 914 and fix up the turbo, personally...but I have a bit of a toofah problem.

The guy who has done the build is a licensed aircraft engineer, so confident the attention to detail and done right is covered. There is also approx 30 k in receipts. Though at the end of the day ideola youre right in that it's a whole lot of work - though a fun possibility. Car not publicly advertised and he's in no rush. We've agreed to stay in touch - suits me.

That's definitely a 924. Looks like GTS build. Nothing too special.
Now, tell me about the 356 in the background!?
