door handle issues
The exterior left door handle is totally shot on my 1987 924S. I have to climb through from the right side and open the door from the inside. Been looking for a used 924S handle but no luck so far. I have found several used 944 handles, anyone know if the 944 handle will fit a 924S???

Sometimes the issue is actually with the door latch mechanism. If the door handle is not visibly broken then take the door pad off, remove the latch mechanism, wash it out good with varsol, blow it dry and relube it. Work it back and forth to make sure all is ok and moving fee, lock levers and all, then reinstall it. I have fixed many "broken" VW door handles this way in the past. The lube in them attracts road dust and they gum up until the outer handle no longer has enough "oomph" to trip them open. If left long enough the door handle eventually brakes from trying to force it.
Hope this helps |

Just took the handle off, the door lock linkage casting is broken, the roll pin is sheared, and the handle socket where the linkage connects is cracked, guess I need a new handle, roll pin and the door lock linkage. I'll go to classified ads and see what is available.
Thanks Frenchy |

I think I remember hearing that the door handles on our 924's are a VW item.
