Need help quick
Alright, here's the deal. I damaged the front end of my car a couple months ago, and am just about to get it repaired. I had ordered a new front end from FiberWerks.com, and it as well as the car are at the body shop right now.
The bodyshop however noticed a slight problem with the fiberwerks front end. It requires removal of the bumper to fit it properly. This means that the only protection out there would be the fiberwerks bumper, which is made of 1/32" (minimum thickness) fiberglass. They won't accept any returns, and state that the bumper isn't nessesary and that newer cars don't even have bumpers (I disagree). Here are my 3 options: Keep fiberwerks front end. If I go with this option what is out there in the event of a low-speed collision (i.e. someone backing into me at a parking lot). I know that in a high/mid speed collision it doesn't really matter as the bumper doesn't help much if at all. Will I wreck the radiator if someone just backs into me? Option 2: Sell fiberwerks front end on ebay, absorb losses & pay ~$2000 for new factory parts/repaired originals. This would be the safest option, although I like the way the fiberwerks parts look a lot better than the factory N/A front. Option 3(?): What is done on the Turbo front ends? I know that they have a plastic front bumper, but is there any steel behind it? If so, what are the chances of fitting these parts to my N/A & placing them behind the fiberwerks bumper? I need to let the body shop know my decision by tomarrow morning, so anything you can let me know quick is going to be very helpful, thanks,

Can you do the wolf mod? and put the fiberworks front end over that...
that would involve removing the bumperettes of your current bumper.... drilling the shocks and allowing the absorbing gel to ooze out..... You can then push the bumper in quite a few inches....hopefully allowing your fiberworks front end to fit over it? Its at least more protection than just the fiberglass front end.....

hmm...that's a thought. The guy at the body shop said that he would have to remove everything to fit the front end, but I doubt he thought of draining the shocks some. Do you just put tape over the holes when you're done draining them?

this is exactly what i'm doing, after getting my 951 back from britwrench, putting an aftermarket fiberglass bumper cover (gt-racing) over the crash bar.
edit: the "steel" you mentioned is the crash bar.

do you believe that the crash bar would fit on an N/A 944 with the fiberwerks front end?

i have no way to definitively answer that, but based on the fact that fiberworks is known in the aftermarket body parts business, i'd have to guess "yes".

The crash bar is actually aluminum, so less weight. You'd need the turbo bumper shocks too.

Why not?
why not just have a crash bar made that bolts up to where the shocks did? Really easy job for a welding shop, as it doesn't have to be really pretty. That is what I plan on doing.
