Hey guys, im a little worried here.
So I have a couple WTB posts and I bumped my thread on 3-10-20 That same day I get a PM from user : smarieosbey, who says he knows of someone selling what im looking for, that he has bought from this guy in the past and got items in "TOP condition" (the speech patterns seem a little "foreign") the email of this guy he sends me to is smithblake@aol.com So I email the guy and hey says yes has the parts they are new in original packaging and he is the original owner (why does that matter?) he says the price is $475. I email him back and say," that's about twice my budget" he replies "OK deal" (what??? now im confused) So I clarify and he says he'll take $285 (ok that's a pretty good deal, a little more than I wanted to spend, but not bad) I didn't respond immediately, and He follows up and says make an offer, I offer 225, he said "deal". I was about to do it, but something just seemed a little off. He kept asking for my "complete shipping address, so we can proceed with the deal" His responsed were always between 1am and 4 am He lists his home address in his signature in his email (who lists their home address in their email???) I google search the address, just shows a house. Google the name AND address, doesn't match google the Name, nothing, in the area OR anything P-car related Same with the email. Also he sent me a picture, and I google image searched the picture, I came up in a For sale thread on RL in 2013 (from clearly a different person) NOW, the User id smarieosbey, joined the PP forum the SAME DAY I bumped the thread; Has Zero posts, or any other activity or details (has anyone else received a PM from him?) |

so its the little details that make me wonder.
he says things like "kindly let me know" (most americans wouldn't say it that way) same with "so we can proceed" and "if we have a deal" (say these things with an "african prince" accent in your head) the way he dropped the price so much, with out even haggling |

That's why I usually like to engage the seller with a phone call, particularly if I'm going to spend larger amounts and don't know the person.

find someone local and have them meet with the seller for an in-person exchange. the porsche community is worldwide and there's usually a known member within a short drive of someone else.

Normally the easiest way to be sure is to ask to pay using PayPal. Scammers always say 'my account has a problem' or something similar.... They will want you to pay by bank transfer or Credit Union or some other form of payment without buyer protection.
