The head to the brunt of it. On the short block one of the pulleys at the end of the balance shaft had the end bent and some of the plastic on the belt covers was pretty destroyed. The pistons/block ect. all look good and turn as they should. Ply

Hey Ply,
By tensioner failure, did you mean the belt tensioner or the chain tensioner inside the head? I'm looking for a pair of exhaust and intake camshafts, if you have those and they are still good (i.e. no missing teeth) let me know. |

It is the one that is in the belt covers on the outside of the engine. Basically by the looks of it, it overheated and melted some of the pieces at which time it had went bang. I'll have to get a better look when I get home and maybe a pic if that description doesn't make any sense. Ply

So the timing belt tensioner went not the cam chain tensioner, which is actually the better scenario. I was asking as a cam chain tensioner failure would have munched the cam shaft sprockets which happen to be the parts I am looking for. If you happen to have the cam cover off and the chain, cams, tensioner and everything seem intact, I'd like to make an offer on those parts if they are available. I'd buy the whole engine but shipping to San Francisco would be a little much.
Btw, do you have a picture of the head. If shipping allows, I might just buy it and rebuild the thing. Thanks -jason Last edited by nh7cy; 11-03-2008 at 03:36 PM.. |
