FS: Freshly Rebuilt 1989 S2 Gearbox w Factory LSD 60% lock up & short fifth gear
For Sale: Freshly Rebuilt 1989 944S2 gearbox, code 7v26057, with factory LSD set to 60% lockup, stock lockup is 40%, and short fifth gear. Gearbox was rebuilt by Steinel's in Twinsburgh, Ohio, in November 2010. Less than 1400 miles have been put on this gearbox that was in my street 1988 944. Invoices are available for the work I had done on the gearbox.
For those in the know, Steinel's is one of the better 944 race prep shops nationwide. In November 2010 the gearbox was disassembled by then Steinel's Lead Technician Perry Dangerfield. Perry replaced the differential lamina to provide 275 lb turning torque, stock is about 100 to 150 lb turning torque. Perry inspected the syncros and bearings replacing the main shaft bearing and seals. Perry also installed the short fifth gear at that time of the rebuild. This gearbox was removed from my street 944 last week. It works perfectly. Price: $2,500 FIRM plus shipping/insurance. Those that know me will tell you I don't skimp on the work done on my cars.
