FS: 2x large oil cooler + braided S/S hoses
Hi,
I am putting up for sale my old oil cooler setup. I started using this setup in 2009 on my NA 944 as the stock water bath oil cooler wasn't doing the job in the temperatures of inland southern California. This cooler comes from a turbodiesel Mercedes and has worked brilliantly for me, even in over 110*F ambient temperatures. After a long drive the "inlet" end is burning hot and the "outlet" side is cold to the touch, it really does work very well. It is slightly smaller than the RX7 oil cooler so there should be no fitment issues. The only reason I removed this from my car is due to the unique front structure of my car not having sufficient space for this cooler and an intercooler as well. I very much wanted to keep this cooler on the car as it worked so well but there just wasn't any room to spare, so I decided to let someone else benefit. The hoses included with the cooler are -10 size stainless braided hoses, approximately 2 ft and 4ft in length. This is enough to fit on a 944 body from the oil filter console (you must convert to the 951 oil filter mount, or maybe this will work with a "sandwich plate") to a location in front of the radiator. I drilled holes in the sheetmetal crossmember behind the 944 NA bumper and bolted this up and it fit nicely. See picture. On one end of the hoses are the OEM "gooseneck" fittings that match the cooler, and on the other end are 24mm metric fittings. Your local hose repair shop should have an M22-M24 adapter fitting in stock. If you have power steering installed you might need a 90* adapter fitting. I will include with the cooler and hoses a second, identical cooler as a spare. I would like to receive $180 shipped for the complete package as that is what I have invested. I am open to offers. I will try to get pictures of the hoses tomorrow. Pictures of the cooler are taken so you can see approximate dimensions of the unit. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

size comparison to stock 951 cooler:
![]() ![]() something to consider: a general rule of thumb is that 40% of the physical volume (LxWxH) is available for fluid volume. with that in mind, this cooler and the included lines have capacity for about 1 extra QT of oil, helping prolong oil life. |
